They were together reassigned to the VIIth legion sometime during Stormblood, and X'verha asked to aid with a new Weapon project. Though he wasn't fond of his new legatus, having something to do with his hands was welcome to keep his mind off his grief. It didn't escape him though that much of the respect he'd commanded before seemed to evaporate with Gaius gone; though he'd long been a citizen at this point, he was treated only a little better than other "savages". Even still, he was untouchable enough as the only man left in the Empire that truly understood how the Ultima weapon had worked and able to work to improve upon it

-None+The new Weapon project was nearing completion, though there were still imperfections. Namely, despite many tests, X'verha could not come up with a solution for the Oversoul problem. In addition, whispers had started up again about the accusation that Gaius had killed the Emperor. X'verha didn't believe it, thinking that it was just more bad information, just like "the prince is possessed by a demon"; a dead man was an easy person to pin blame on, after all. He didn't have much time to think about this, however, as once the Warrior of Light started moving in on Werlyt, Milisandia was assigned to pilot the Ruby Weapon. When she triggered Oversoul, X'verha tried to remotely shut down the weapon to save her life, only to be violently subdued and taken into custody as a traitor. Over the next several months, X'verha faced terrible abuses and torture at the hands of Valens, much of it unspeakable in polite company and leaving him with scars physical and psychological. After the incident with the Diamond weapon destroyed the Castrum the VIIth was based in, Gaius pulled X'verha from the wreckage and took him back to Terncliff for treatment, where he learned of the extent of what X'verha had suffered.

+While he was in recovery, he asked to see Allie, not believing she was still alive. When he saw the state she was in, still barely responsive and nonverbal, he felt immense guilt. Once he was able to walk confidently again, he fled Terncliff aboard one of the Ironworks' airships, deciding to join the organization to try to make amends for all the damage his inventions had done. While there, he struggled with nightmares and flashbacks to his torture. Eventually Nero confided in Jesse (who then of course relayed it to Cid) that X'verha was clearly struggling. After some convincing from Cid, X'verha returned to Terncliff, to be greeted by Allie and Gaius, the former whom had come a long way in her own recovery and enthusiastically scolded him for disappearing on her.
