Valeria yae Galvus, the very first Empress of Garlemald, is a tall, quiet woman that holds a shard of Azem's soul. She is friendly to those that treat her kindly, but constantly gives the impression that she does not expect it. She's also a hopeless romantic, and loves to garden despite the cold climate she lives in.
Her mother died when Valeria was born, leaving her to be raised by her father alone. They shared a close bond, Valeria often accompanying her father to his workplace, playing quietly in a corner or reading books while he worked hard to support her. When she was approaching ten summers, her father remarried a cold woman with two young girls of her own. He hoped that it would be good for Valeria to have kids her own age around to play with, but that couldn't have been further from the truth.
Before Valeria's thirteenth nameday, her father fell very ill, passing away soon thereafter. From that point, her stepmother dropped all attempts at appearing to be fond of the now orphan, treating her as the family's servant and insisting her daughters do the same, even physically beating Valeria when she didn't perform to expectations.
One day, when Valeria was just shy of twenty, a friend of her's, Noelle, snuck her into a ball being held by the now-royal Galvus family. Her intention was to lay low and simply enjoy a nice night out, avoiding prominent figures and just wining and dining. Little did she know the color of her soul may as well have been a beacon for the new Emperor, and when she was knocked over by some careless party goer, he was there to help her up.
And as one may say, the rest is history.
