Ava Drangahr Come, test your craven souls against my lance!

Common Knowledge

The proud and powerful vanguard of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, blessed by the Echo and Midgardsormr, King of Dragons. Ava is ruthless in battle with an ego to match. As the crimson dragoon and warrior of light, she prides herself on her overflowing courage, eager to plunge her lance into those she deems craven — especially those who forget that she is the crimson dragoon. Despite, or even because of this, she holds animosity towards Ishgard due to her mysterious affinity towards dragonkind and their previous spurning of her position.

Ava places great importance upon the responsibility of positions of power, and has relatively high political competency. As current Crimson Dragoon, she has placed great effort into the reform of the Order of the Knights Dragoon into a force for maintaining amicable relations with Dravania and serves as a diplomat between Ishgard and Dravania. She places just as much importance on this position as she does as Warrior of Light.

Personal Knowledge

Not much is known to the public about Ava's origins as she avoids sharing her Meracydian heritage and draconic worship for her and her peoples' safety; Most assume that she is a refugee from Ala Mhigo and Ava does nothing to refute this. Ava is very devout in her worship of Bahamut and Tiamat, seeing the slaughter of a dragon as a grave, unforgivable sin.

Despite her role as the Scion's Eikon Slayer, Ava has great respect for the various non-twelve worshipping societies of Hydaelyn and their deities. Following her own trauma of having to slay the primal manifestation of her god Bahamut and the revelation of Ysayle's manifestation of Shiva, she sees this role as a mercy: She is to slay these twisted imitations of gods to spare their worshippers the burden of doing it themselves.

History

Pre-MSQ

Ava was born in the devastated continent of Meracydia with no family to call her own – her parents, lost to despair, supped on dragon blood and fled the continent in hopes of a better life. She survived her youth only due to the generosity of one of the centaur-like peoples of her homeland, though they made sure she fended for herself a few years after her tenth nameday. Her life was rather uneventful, using her skill with the spear to eradicate pests for money, occasionally helping fend off invaders. This way of living simply wasn't enough for her – she wished to fight grand foes, to feel the rush of danger, to actually mean something to the world.

Her big break came in the form of a greatwyrm spitting the sky open and dropping shards of Dalamud onto the landscape. As she watched Bahamut, the very dragon her people worshiped for his selfless sacrifice in the Third Astral Era, cause such destruction, something awakes within her. She decides for the first time in her lifetime to set foot outside Meracydia – For answers and for adventure.

A Realm Reborn

Ava arrived in Gridania approximately three years following the calamity. While eager to begin her search for Bahamut, she quickly came to realize that dragons were feared by much of the Eorzean population, most seen more as nuisances than forces begetting worship, especially following Bahamut's involvement in the calamity. Thus, she refrained disclosing her worship of dragons and conducted most of her search in secret. She eventually came across a lead in the form of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, an organization which seemed to have some connection to the calamity. In pursuit of information, she joined their ranks with her new reputation from slaying the primal Ifrit.

Post-ARR

Things get so bad, man.

Ava joining the Scions finally paid off once she heard word of Alisaie looking into a fragment of Dalamud where Bahamut may rest. She eagerly joined the covert expedition, pursuing the truth alongside the young elezen with an almost manic fervor. As they continued, however, the two discovered more and more horrifying truths which took a toll on them both, especially for Ava who was forced to raise her spear against the imprisoned dragons within. Upon learning of Bahamut's nature as a primal and the endless suffering caused by his existence, she took on the penultimate sin of deicide, one which weighed heavy on her shoulders for the following years.

One brief joy Ava experienced following that trauma was meeting G'raha Tia during an expedition of the Crystal Tower. His quixotic demeanor and short stature set off a motherly instinct within her, much to his chargin. The two bonded over the expedition, only for her to lose the boy she came to see as a son when he followed his destiny and resolved to lock himself within the tower.

Following these tragic events, Ava was in a state of crisis, desperate for direction. Upon hearing word of a faction of heretics who worshipped dragons and Saint Shiva, she ravenously pursued the cult and became captivated by their leader, Lady Iceheart – A charismatic woman whose ideals lined up with her own, similarly gifted with the echo. Sympathetic to their cause, Ava discreetly went against her duties as a Scion of the Seventh Dawn and helped obscure their activities.

After advice from Iceheart to visit the Keeper of the Lake, Ava met Midgardsormr, the all-powerful Father of Dragons. Ava's sympathy to the dravanians' cause and role as Hydaelyn's champion intrigued him, and thus Midgardsormr bound them with a covenant, resolving to judge her worth – Placing whether he would join Nidhogg's war on Ishgard upon her shoulders. Her interactions with him helped Ava view the heretics' actions more objectively, giving her the resolve to take down Ysayle's primal form of Shiva.

Heavensward

Though grateful for a place to call home for the time being, Ava despises the leering eyes of the Ishgardian nobility. Even the dragoons who she should have authority over turn their nose up at them, claiming there is only one Azure Dragoon, a whelp whom she had bested a year ago.

She swears she'll show them how wrong they are, how wrong everything about them is. She forms bonds with the dravanians of Ishgard, a dragoon's sworn enemy. She takes down primals and even bests the infamous Nidhogg. She discovers the lies that constitute the high houses, and is ready to tear it all down. Head high, she heads to Azys Lla to slay King Thordan and his crowd of subservient knights.

Shadowbringers

Quickly realizing that the Exarch is the very son she thought had been lost to fate, Ava followed along with his scheme, trusting his judgement. While she never confronted him on this fact directly, she left many hints that she knew of his identity.

With G'raha and Alisaie's help, Ava was finally able to set Tiamat free. This achievement has given Ava greater hope for the recovery of her homeland. As Tiamat now has need of her power again, Ava draws less strength from her from this point on.

Appearance

Ava's highlander heritage shows through her height, musculature, buxom chest, and especially her powerful thighs–a feature she very much likes showing off. She likes using her height against shorter races such as miqo'te and shorter au'ra. Her skin is a medium, tanned-looking tone with various scars–notably across her clavicle, hip, & left arm. Though the scar on her left arm is from raising a dragonet, she can't remember where she got the other ones from. She has a few draconic tattoos on her body which are often hidden from sight – these tattoos are both signals of her worship and aid in Ava's

Ava's hair is a long nearly auburn brown, tied into a high ponytail with the bangs swept over her ear. The tips are dyed a deep rolanberry red from Stormblood onward. Her sidelocks reach mid-chest, framing her face quite nicely. On rare occasions where she lets her hair down, one would find that it is quite long, reaching her mid-back, though most are so used to seeing her with her hair up that they don't recognize her. Her eyes are sharp and green. When channeling a greatwyrm's power, they glow the color of the greatwyrm's eyes. She also has a pair of fangs, sharpened to a point to intimidate opponents.

Ava carries herself with an air of confidence – Back tall and a smirk on her face at most times. Sharp nails, sharp eyeliner, sharp teeth: all these features give a dangerous allure, similar to a femme fatale (Though she will wink at a cutie, assuring them that her talons are simply acrylics). A life of action shows through her choice in fashion – her dresser is chock-full of armor, and she is rarely seen outside of something unintended for combat. Her signature looks include a short skirt paired with thigh-high boots, meant to accentuate the glimpse of her muscular thighs.

When wearing makeup, she typically limits herself to eyeliner, lipstick, acrylic nails, and occasionally eye shadow. Her palette is made up of dark colors: blood red, ink black, and her favorite rolanberry red. Her makeup is intended to look sensual yet dangerous.

Abilities

The Echo. A mysterious ability allowing her to transcend her limits, peer into the past & withstand tempering.

Midgardsormr's Blessing. An ability allowing her to manifest Dravanian powers unto herself, gifted to her by Midgardsomr during the events of Heavensward. The blessing only allows her to use the strength of wyrms who she has either bested or those who she has formed a great bond with. Currently, she can manifest Tiamat, Nidhogg, Bahamut, Hraesvelgr, and Midgardsormr.

Greatwyrm Trance. An offset of Midgardsormr's Blessing, allowing her to use her body as a vessel for the greatwyrm themself, her appearance changing according to how much power she draws. Though a powerful ability, it sets her into a trancelike state where she fights for her own sanity and leaves her exhausted afterwards.

Peerless Dragoon. A mastery over polearms and dragoon abilities, which she very much prides herself upon.

Greataxe Proficiency. Once she was able to dedicate her time to her duties as Azure Dragoon, Ava took up the axe as to better draw the ire of her enemies. This allows new recruits to properly practice their blows against the weak points of a beast. Ava draws upon the wrath of Nidhogg while doing so, likening her abilities to that of a Warrior’s inner beast.

Fishing. Women want her, fish fear her.

Relationships

Midgardsormr

SOULMATES IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. Midgardsormr and Ava are bound by covenant – one initially formed so Midgardsormr could judge whether she was worthy of Hydaelyn's blessing, but now their bond runs much deeper than even that of a pact. Midgardsormr has borne witness to every vice Ava has to bear – her wrath, her hypocrisy, and most personally her ceaseless flirtation – and yet he fully trusts her with his strength, trusts her to defend his children.
Midgardsormr indulges Ava just enough once he deemed her worthy, and while he does not realize it yet – and perhaps will not come to terms with until long after her death – is that he loves her. Deeply, truly, just as one of his own children loved Shiva.

Midgardsormr, to Ava The covenant bound me to thee, but ‘twould seem our fates were mingled from the first.

Tiamat

AVA'S DEITY, PACT-BONDED. The very wyrm Ava worships. Tiamat and Ava are linked even more so as the dusk wyrm found a kindred soul within Ava and bequeathed upon her the blessing of her strength.

Ava, to Tiamat In Your stead, I will fly for Your wings, see for Your eyes, live for Your life.

G'raha Tia

ADOPTED SON. Ava instinctively decided that she would act as G'raha's mother, much to his embarrassment. Though he resisted at first, he eventually ceded, accepting that he couldn't stop her, even a bit flattered that the famed adventurer took such interest in him. G’raha looks up to Ava, admiring her strength and numerous feats, considering her his hero and inspiration. Ava, meanwhile, found his excited admiration of adventurers and his melodramatic posing adorable, likening him to an excitable child.

Even after G'raha's stint as the Exarch, Ava still considers him to be her child. After enduring countless years of acting as a sage, mysterious elder, he now surprisingly finds comfort in how she dotes on him.

G'raha Tia, regarding Ava She's my hero and my inspiration. Though it's... embarassing how she treats me like a child, I'm full glad she's taken me under her wing.

Foulques

MENTOR-TURNED LOVER. Ava's first true companion in Eorzea and lover. Foulques took a liking to Ava the first time they met, captivated by her courage in the face of danger. Ava, intrigued by his interest, was drawn to his proposition of leaving the lancer's guild in pursuit of true courage. Ava considers Foulques the first person to truly see her potential and found his high-adrenaline training method exciting. He, in turn, considers Ava his savior as well as the first to truly trust him and to see the good in him even when he was at his worst–As well as a close confidant in terms of trash-talking the cravens of the Lancer's Guild.

Ava, regarding Foulques What to say about my darling Foulques... He was the first person to see something in me, even before I'd even killed my first primal. Sure, he's a spear-waving courage evangelist, but there's no one else I'd rather have fighting by my side -- not to mention he's oh-so-fun to tease.

Ysayle

ALLY-TURNED LOVER. After the trauma of slaying Bahamut, Ava followed the first signs of the fabled Iceheart - A woman who spoke of mending the bond between dragon and man - in a desperate search of salvation.
Ysayle and Ava share a love for dragons as well as Hydaelyn’s gift. Though Ava is a dragoon, Ysayle understands that Ava yearns to restore the bond between man and dragon just as much as she does. Through their trek across Dravania, the two enjoyed poking fun at Estinien together. Ava admires Ysayle’s conviction and desire for peace.

Ava, regarding Ysayle Oh, sweet, lovely Ysayle! Though she may not truly be Saint Shiva, there is no one in this age more deserving of the title of Saint. Her resolve, her ideals, the very way she speaks... She brought salvation. To me, even to this accursed Ishgard.

Estinien

If there are 1 million est*nien haters Ava is one of them. If he has one hater that hater is her. If he has no haters that means she is no longer on this earth. If the world stands for est*nien Ava stands against the world. Until her last breath she is #Piss rat hater

Alisaie

LIKE A LITTLE SISTER. Ava and Alisaie share a close bond following the events at the Coils of Bahamut – no one has seen Ava as low as Alisaie, who witnessed when she had to kill her first dragons and learned that she even had to kill her own god. Despite this, Alisaie respects Ava more than anyone else.
